Honing in on UX (User Experience), here are our top 3 UX design deliverables, giving you an insight into the way in which the Gomie team works.
When presented with a product, the first thing our team do is assess it, carrying out various tasks to dig deeper into what we are working with. This part of the process is split into three:
Analytics audit – An analytics audit is a task to reveal which elements of a website or app is causing problems regarding user experience. For instance, at what point are users dropping off? Are they getting frustrated with how long the site is taking to load? By asking such questions, our designers can put the pillars in place to improve.
Content audit – This part of the process is centred on information assets, looking at the information a user is presented with and analysing its effectiveness in providing a unique user experience. Combining qualitative and quantitative research techniques, the content audit assesses the strengths of the content, giving designers and markets the data they need to build successful content marketing strategies going forward.
Usability testing – Usability testing is a technique used in user-centred interaction design to evaluate a product by testing it on users. From those invested in the industries products for, to complete strangers picked at random, such a technique can really open up your eyes to the parts of the product that do and do not work.
When creating a website or an application, it is important for designers to look at the wider market, getting a taste for what other people are and are not doing. So much can be uncovered during this phase of a project; split in to two stages:
Competitor analysis – Allowing you to understand industry standards, taking a look at competitors’ products in depth is always a good call, getting to grips with the type of content they are creating, their site layout and most importantly; how they engage with customers.
Value proposition – This is a statement that maps out the key aspects of a product. Detailing what it is, who it is for and how it will be used, the team can start to build ideas regarding what the product can become, as well as its potential to be marketed online.
Last, but by no means least, we have user research, a part of the process that informs a great deal of the design and content creation phase of the project. Getting insights into user behaviour, needs and motivations, here are a few ways in which designers can conduct worthwhile research.
Personas – In the context of web design, a persona refers to a fictional being who uses the product in a similar way to a user. Frequently used by designers, creating personas is very much a Marmite method; loved by some and loathed by others. Highlighting a potential user’s goals, frustrations and even digging into their personality, designers can use algorithms to test how different people will respond to designs without contacting one single human!
